31st May at Eleanor's

Quite a little crowd gathered at Eleanor's house this morning: Claire, Heather, Judy, Carolyn, Sue, Towse, Elaine (welcome to a new sewing buddy), Hilary and as a result there was a hive of activity!
Towse took quite a lot of pictures as Debs has asked to see how some of our Sampler Quilts have turned out and another sewing buddy has asked to see some close ups of what we are all up to.

So I'm going to let the pictures do the talking. First, here are some of our completed (and almost completed) samplers from our course with Plainstitch Deb last Autumn:

Eleanor has also used a couple of these blocks to make a Christmas Table Runner:

Seeing this also gave us the opportunity to explore Eleanor's stash! She promises there are only two shelves - at least at the moment!

There was a whole mixture of activities going on. Carolyn had even brought knitting!

Heather has a variety of projects on the go ....

Hilary is doing the Modern Applique with Debs:

Towse thinks she has made some fabric selections for Deb's Farmer's Wife Quilt class starting in the Autumn...

New sewing buddy Elaine ....Towse met her at the first Wendover Sewing Bee ...

But the BIG NEWS is that Judy is very close to opening her own shop in Thame. The shop is currently being fitted out and she hopes to be open for the end of June. So watch this space for details...

Next session is likely to be hosted by Sue in July. She will email everyone with details.

Sunday 5 May 2013

Thank you so much my friend!

I said in the previous post about how I felt that a hand-made item given to a friend shows the love. Well, imagine my delight and surprise when at the last meet up, Carolyn gave me a hand-made gift.

She had taken the little Secret Garden squares that Judy had shown me how to make, and then I had shown Carolyn, plus the cut-away applique project that I had given her to do while she was recovering from her operation, and combined them with some funky, bright, Towse style fabric and made me this amazing bag! I cannot tell you how chuffed I was. Thank you Carolyn. I am so glad that I met you and that you are a friend as well as a sewing buddy.

Session at Towse's house on 3rd May

Well, it was a small but perfectly formed company, namely Towse, Carolyn and Judy who got together at Towse's house on Friday 3rd May. It doesn't seem to matter what we do, we can't seem to find a date that suits everyone! As you can see from the expression on the dog's face - it was not at all a stressful experience!

Judy finally started hand quilting a piece that she started rather too long ago and had been putting off. She discovered that you can actually achieve quite a lot in a couple of hours. Carolyn is finishing off her quilt top and inserting a rather nice piped piece at the same time. Towse is using a couple of her orphan blocks from her sampler quilt and turning them into cushion covers for a couple of friends 'special' birthdays. She has told her friends that if they get something 'hand-made by Towse' it is a certain sign of how much she loves them!
You can vaguely see the Dresden Plate cushion cover on the table - amongst the inevitable coffee mugs and cake plates!
The next session will also be at Towse's house on Friday, 31st May. The email has already been sent out with full details to everyone. It would be lovely to see more of you!
