A whole day of sew 'n' chat at Sue's!

Well our last session was a whole day at Sue's lovely home in the Chilterns. She invited people for the day as she felt she lived a bit 'off track' to our usual meeting places around Wendover. The weather was hot, but the house was cool and welcoming with all the doors and windows open to let the air through.

So we started off with just Sue, Eleanor and Towse but not forgetting Sylvia (Silve) who lives near Towse. Silve has been a longstanding buddy and fellow blogger of Kath Lordon (talented lady in Somerset http://www.railwaycottage.blogspot.co.uk/) and is full of usual information and tips for us beginners.

The cardboard box on the table is actually part of Towse's historic tile collection (part of the Sun Jester collection) which Sue (who is also interested in history) was eager to see. Carolyn was able to join us later.

There was, as usual, lots of interesting conversation, but, believe it or not folks, there was also a considerable amount of sewing done! Morning coffee, lunch to share, afternoon tea (and the obligatory cake), good company and plenty of fabric - an ideal way to spend a day!

The next session will probably be back at Eleanor's at the beginning of September. She will be getting in touch in due course.

Meanwhile, for those who have wondered what I am sewing (as I am taking the pictures I am somewhat invisible), here is the latest on what is fondly called currently 'Son of Monster' as it is made from lots of scraps including my very first sampler quilt. It is also my first attempt at paper piecing. As Judy has told me, I could have started with something simpler but the thing about being a beginner is that you don't realise what you have taken on until you has started it!

Since I took this picture the two strips on the left have been added to the main quilt and all the papers that I can remove have been taken out. With the pieces I've got left, it's sort of going to be a single bed size, I think! Takes ages to even remove the papers. My friend Richard was quite bemused with all the stages of cutting paper, fabric, basting, sewing together, removing paper. When you think about it, it does seem quite a mad thing to be doing!

Hope you haven't all melted in the heat. Bye for now. Have a lovely summer holidays for all those with children or are going away.
